Location, Location, Location

As some of you may know, I read. A lot. I read books, magazines, blogs, just about anything. I picked up (from Barnes and Noble of all places!) a book the other day entitled "Moments." It is a collection of Pulitzer Prize winning photographs and their associated stories. One re-occurring theme I discovered was that many photographs were contributed to one or more of the three following things: Preparedness, Police Scanners, and Luck. Always having your camera, knowing whats happening, and a little bit of fairy dust can go a long way towards making a photograph great. Yesterday I had planned to go deposit my paycheck and head over to Forest Park to try some light painting at the Outdoor Transportation Museum.

As I was driving I noticed the complete lack of cars in the Wal-Mart parking lot and several emergency vehicles (Police, EMS, random white State Police trucks...) I then saw the roads into the parking lot were barricaded off. I knew something was up so I parked across the street, grabbed my camera and headed off toward the mecca of savings itself. After a few minutes, I found some people milling about and asked them what was going on. One gentleman looked at me and simply stated "A bomb threat was called into the store a while ago."

Well I got fairly excited and threw my telephoto on my D50 and started walking towards the building. I thought it was pretty funny when some (higher level) employee with a radio walked by me saying "We've got some guy from the media here." I managed to stick around for about a half hour as the police left the building and allowed the employees to return. Nothing exciting happened, but I did learn that the Indiana State Police only have one set of decals for their two (presumably) bomb squad trucks. (I figured this out about a minute before some manager finally asked me to stop taking pictures or leave).

Well with the trip to the Transportation Museum scrapped, I went home and reviewed my pictures. Unfortunately there were only a few good shots so here they are.
