I went to Roberts today to get my camera looked at and as I checked it before I left the house - it worked!
The Culprit: apparently it had gone through enough humidity changes between the cabins and outdoors that enough condensation built up to temporarily short the circuitry for two weeks... ouch.
also: Frau Blücher!
